Modal fabric is made from beech trees. You may see it called bio-based, semi-synthetic, or just synthetic because turning the pulp into fabric involves chemical treatments and an intense factory manufacturing process. Its manufacturing process closely resembles the method used to create viscose rayon, which is another semi-synthetic fabric that uses natural products and a man-made process to create a material.

Modal fabric is a bio-based fabric that is made from spinning beech tree cellulose. Modal is generally considered an eco-friendlier alternative to cotton because beech trees don’t require much water to grow and therefore the production process uses about 10-20 times less water.

Modal fabric looks thin and silky and drapes well. It feels soft and a little stretchy.

It’s 50% more absorbent than cotton and also more breathable than many synthetics like polyester. It also has special dye-fast properties that prevent it from bleeding color. This means you can wash it with hot water without worrying about fading.

This material requires very simple care, as it is wrinkle-resistant and fully washable. It also lasts a long time and does not deteriorate or pill easily.

Modal Fabric Positive Properties:

Modal fabric is naturally stretchy. Modal’s flexibility makes it ideal for items like t-shirts and athletic wear. It is widely known that modal has an incredibly soft touch. Modal is great for sportswear, base layers, t-shirts and underwear as the fabric’s weave is very breathable.

It is also highly moisture absorbent. Modal is 50% more absorbent than cotton. Modal is very strong because of the tight weave and the long fibres but yet it drapes very well. Similar to rayon and other silk alternatives, modal has a beautiful drape that makes it ideal for our products. The fabric resists pilling and has a smooth finish that makes it ideal for everyday wear and use. Besides all these advantages modal is made from regenerative plants and there are fewer chemicals used in the production process than with other types of rayon and it is 100% biodegradable. The fabric absorbs dye in warm water and does not release dye during the laundering process. Unlike most forms of rayon, modal is much less likely to shrink in the wash. Modal resists wrinkles and will stay smooth with minimal ironing.

After reading through all these advantages it is clear why modal fabric is such a great textile to make baby clothing from. Aksem baby is using top quality Turkish modal fabric for orders.
